Wholesale inflation fell -2.06 percent in February, the lowest in four decades



Wholesale inflation -2.06 per cent in February, with steep declines occurred. Wholesale prices declined for the fourth consecutive month. Earlier wholesale inflation in 1976 was reduced by -2.10 percent. Such wholesale inflation has come at the bottom of the last 38 years. Cause of this decline is the sharp fall in crude and commodity prices.

Inflation was at -0.39 per cent in January 2015. Prices of food items have fallen. Food inflation in January and February fell 7.74 per cent to 8 per cent occurred. Wholesale inflation rate decreased from 0.11 per cent in December 2014 revised slipped to -0.5 percent. The major cause of the decline in wholesale prices in February Fuel and Power, manufacturing and non-food prices was reduced. Manufacturing in February inflation slipped to 0.33 per cent, 1.05 per cent in the January 2015.

Food inflation easing

According to data released by the government, food inflation has declined. Food inflation fell to 7.74 percent in February, which was 8 per cent in January. Wheat, potatoes, vegetables, milk and fruit prices have come down. However, coarse grain prices have come down. Eggs, meat and fish is too expensive.
